GPFM Webinar: The 'Design Validation' and 'Defence System' pilots: implementing the TwinEU project in Italy

This series is dedicated to the Green Powered Future Mission’s National Pilot Projects. This webinar showcases a project from Enel called ‘TwinEU’. It aims to create a Pan-European digital twin of the electricity system. It involves a large consortium of over 75 partners representing 15 countries and all aspects of the value chain including grid operators, technology providers, regulatory authorities, and research centres. Key Objectives and Features

• Digital Twin Ecosystem: TwinEU develops an adaptable federated digital twin ecosystem with three main layers:

       1. Adaptive Twins Federation Layer

       2. Dataspace-enabled Data/Models Sharing Infrastructure

       3. TwinEU Service Workbench

• Demonstrators: 8 demonstrators across 11 European countries focus on aspects like cyber-physical grid resilience, grid management, and planning and forecasting.

• Sustainability and Innovation: The project supports the EU's green transition by enhancing grid efficiency and resilience, facilitating renewable energy deployment.

• Funding and Scope: Funded by the EU with an estimated total cost of approximately €25.2 million, the project began in January 2024 and will run for 36 months.

Impact and Collaboration

TwinEU collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with energy sector needs, focusing on interoperability, grid investments, consumer empowerment, and cybersecurity. It represents a crucial step towards a more sustainable and resilient European energy system through digital twin technology.
